How to: Download all submissions from a Moodle Assignment dropbox
Once students have submitted their assignments to a Moodle Assignment dropbox within your module in Moodle you can then download all the assignments as a zip to either mark offline and reupload as feedback or, if the submissions are to be shared post grading e.g. group posters, you could post up the zip in your module for all the students to access.
Downloading submissions
- Go into your module in Moodle
- Go into your previously created Moodle Assignment dropbox after the due date has passed
- Click on the View all submissions hyperlink
The student information table will then be loaded for this assignment.
4. At this point LOCK SUBMISSIONS to prevent students resubmitting and overwriting the version you have will have marked. To lock submissions:
- Tick the Select tick-box to select all students. [If there are some students who have not yet submitted or you are expecting late submissions then at some point you will need to reopen the box for those students to allow them to submit.]
5. Scroll to the bottom of the table and select Download submissions in folders
6. Scroll back up. From the Grading action drop-down menu at the top of the page, Select 'Download all submissions'
Depending on your browser, the zip file will download OR A pop-up window will appear giving you the option to Open file or Save file to the downloads folder.
Note: The zip will automatically be saved in your Downloads folder on your computer. It will be named the same as your Module short name (see ADMINISTRATION block > Module administration > Edit settings)
This zip file contains a folder for each student. (If anonymous it will show their Moodle student ID—not the same as their SATURN/Campus ID)
The next steps take place outside Moodle, on your computer.
Accessing the downloaded zip
At the moment we recommend this is carried out on a desktop PC or Mac or a Surface Pro rather than an iPad.
Unzip the folder: extract the files. Move them to an area in your file folders named for your assignment.
