How to: create a non-numeric grading scale

This refers to Moodle 4.1 from December 2023 onwards.

Rather than using points to grade assignments you can grade using a scale e.g. 'Pass or Fail' or using letters instead of numbers.

Creating a scale

  1. In your module, select 'Grades' from the row of options underneath the course title.

the row of options under the header are module, settings, participants, grades, reports and more.

2. To the left of the screen there is the Grader report drop-down list. Click on the floating arrow to show the list of options and select 'Scales'.
