Applies to Moodle 3.11 from August 2022 onwards
Viewing your Turnitin Originality Report
In some, but not all, Turnitin assignments, you are permitted to see your originality report (including a similarity percentage score.)
Permission is set by the module convenor. It will not be changed upon request as it is dependent on the requirements of each individual assignment.
Originality reports are generated either once the assignment is uploaded or the due date has passed and, at peak times, it can take up to 24 hours to produce, though this is usually less.
Most dropboxes allow resubmission, but Turnitin does not keep a log of your submission history. If you do make multiple submissions, only the final submission will be recorded.
Viewing your Similarity Percentage Score
When the report has been generated, the similarity percentage score will appear in the Similarity column of the Turnitin submission page, My Submissions.
Viewing your Originality Report
In My Submissions, click the title of your submission to enter the feedback studio, where you can find the originality report.
Your document will be displayed on the left with the feedback menu on the right, as shown below.
Match Overview displays the similarity score and provides a breakdown of all the matches found in the paper.
| To view the Match Overview, click on the red, numerical similarity score from the toolbar. |
---|
Click the Match Overview expands it, as shown below. It will be displayed in the side panel to the right.
Any matches within the paper will be highlighted. Source papers are identified with their own colour, with matches from that source being individually numbered.
Matches are ordered by instance of similarity, from highest to lowest.
Clicking a source from the list in the Match Overview panel will show you how many matches have been found for that source. Clicking the navigation arrows jumps from one match to the next and moves you through the paper to show the location of each match.
Clicking on the arrow to the right of a source (indicated above) opens its unique Match Breakdown. It is a list of all the sources relevant to that particular match. Click any match to navigate to its location within your paper.
Click on the source number within the paper to open a pop-up box displaying more information about the text that matches the source.
Click on the Full Source View icon in the top right of the pop-up box to see the source in its entirety.
Note: Only external sources will be shown. Other student's papers that share a match with yours will not be shown.
Clicking X in the top right of the side panel returns the Match Overview.
No originality report?
If the module convenor has set the settings not to allow students to view the originality report, there will be no percentage shown to students in the Similarity column.
