MediaSpace accepts a wide variety of video formats.

We recommend where possible, MP3 (for audio) or MP4 (for video)

How to submit a media file through a Moodle assignment dropbox

  • Navigate to the relevant module, click into the Assignment, then select Add submission.


To upload a media file you have created:

  • 936pxAfter clicking Add submission
  • In the upload screen for online text, select the bent arrow at the end of the formatting bar to open the full formatting icon suite

  • Click the Mediaspace button (marked below).

  • A new window will open.

Your browser must be set to accept ALL cookies (If at this point you see a message indicating that your browser is blocking third party cookies, see https://www.wikihow.com/Enable-Cookies-in-Your-Internet-Web-Browser for how to resolve this issue).

  • In the new window (Mediaspace), towards the top-right of the page, click Add New  then select Media Upload.
  • Read the copyright statement and tick the checkbox, if you agree to it.
  • The Upload Media dialog box will open. Drag and Drop a file OR Click +Choose a file to upload and navigate to the file you wish to submit.


  • N.B. for Mac users: Videos created on a Mac sometimes upload without audio and may need to be re-encoded using a free program such as Handbrake)
  • When the file has uploaded (this may take some time, depending on the size), complete the name and description and click Save.

  • This will save your changes ONLY ...


  • ... To complete the upload, click Save and Embed, then click Embed on the following Preview page.


            
  • The file will appear in the Online Text box as a hyperlink.
    (You can submit multiple videos by creating a new line and repeating the process with the next video)
  • Click Save Changes to submit and view your media.

  • Your submission is now complete and the Submission Status should show as 'Submitted for grading' (in green).
  • If your submission was late, Time Remaining will be highlighted red and it will show how late the submission was.

         

  • If you happy with your submission you can navigate away from the submission page and continue with your other tasks. 
  • If you wish to resubmit, click Edit Submission begin the process again.

      To embed a link to a media file from an external source (e.g., a YouTube video):

  • After clicking Add submission, in the upload screen for online text click the Link button.

  • Paste the URL for your media source into the Create Link dialog box and click Open in New Window > Create Link.
  • The file will appear in the Online Text box as a hyperlink. Your description should be written underneath the link.



  • Click Save Changes to submit and view your file.
  • Your submission is now complete and the Submission Status should show as 'Submitted for grading' (in green).
  • If your submission was late, Time Remaining will be highlighted red and it will show how late the submission was.

  • If you happy with your submission you can navigate away from the submission page and continue with your other tasks. 
  • If you wish to resubmit, click Edit Submission begin the process again.

Note that the appearance of the icon bar in this video is a previous version. The MediaSpace icon does look the same though in a different place on the formatting bar. See instructions above.
