This refers to Moodle 4.3 from August 2024 onwards
NOTE: You can NOT use the drag and drop method to move files between folders. It is necessary to download the content you wish to move before uploading to a new/recipient folder.
NOTE: Files can be downloaded individually, or the entire contents of a folder can be downloaded as a .zip.
- Begin by navigating to the original/donor folder.
Click to open- Download individual files by clicking on the relevant filename.
- Download the entire folder contents by clicking 'Download folder'.
In both cases, either the file or the .zip will be sent to the downloads folder of the computer.
2. Navigate to the module that contains the new/recipient folder and turn on the 'Edit mode' toggle switch at the top right of the screen.
3. Scroll down to the new folder (or if needed, create a new folder), click the three vertical dots and click 'Edit Settings'.
4. Scroll down to the "Content" tab of the Edit page, where there is a dialog box you can use to upload files.
To add an individual file
- Drag and drop the file into the dialog box, or click 'Add' files and use the File Picker.
2. When you have added your files click on the 'Save and return to module' button at the bottom of the page.
3. Click on the 'Turn editing off' button on your main Moodle page
You will now be able to see your uploaded folders in your folder
To add the entire folder contents from a downloaded .zip file
- Navigate to the module that contains the new/recipient folder and turn on the 'Edit mode' toggle switch at the top right of the screen.
- Scroll down to the new folder (or if needed, create a new folder), click the three vertical dots and click 'Edit Settings'.
3. Scroll down to the "Content" tab of the Edit page, where there is a dialog box you can use to upload files. Click 'Add' files
4. Find the .zip file you want to add and double-click to add it to 'File picker'
5. Click 'Upload this file'
6. Double-click on the uploaded zip folder in the content files window
7. In the pop up window select 'Unzip'.
8. Once extracted, the files will appear in the designated folder, along with the original zip file. Just click on the original zip file to delete if you just wish to keep the extracted files.
9. Click 'Save and return to module' and click on the 'Edit mode' toggle switch to the top right of the page to turn editing off.
The migrated files will now appear in the new/recipient folder.
