This refers to Moodle 4.3 from August 2024 onwards

If you have media files that you would like to present all in one location in Moodle, use the Media Gallery. You can also allow students to download media content from the Media Gallery if you wish.

To access the Media Gallery, click on the 'More' button and select 'My Media' from the dropdown.

Adding media files

1. Go to the 'My Media' page and click on the 'Add New' button and select 'Media Upload' from the dropdown.

Tick the box to acknowledge that you have ownership or permission from the copyright holder

2. Drag and drop your video into the space provided OR select 'Choose a file to upload' to find a file from your computer.

3. Your file will then upload to your Media Gallery and you can add details about your media below the upload bar

4. Once you have added the details, click on the 'Save' button

Allowing download

You can also allow students to download media content from the Media Gallery if you wish.

  1. To do this, click on the media thumbnail from the 'My Media' page
  2. Click the 'Edit' pencil icon pencil icon 'Edit' pencil iconfor the media you want to let viewers download. This will open the Edit Media page.

  3. Choose the Downloads tab beneath your media and select the check box(es) next to the version(s) that you would like to make available for downloading. Do not allow download of the source file as this may not be in a format compatible to the viewer's device. Then click 'Save'

Students will now see a download tab. When they click this tab, they will be able to choose to download the media content.

Analytics

From your Media Gallery, you can also check on the Analytics by clicking on graph icon Graph icon for analytics

The Analytics page shows the statistics for your media gallery. It looks at:

  • Category page views
  • Top videos
  • Top views
  • Insights
  • Category Performance Over Time
  • Top countries
  • Devices overview
  • Top Domains

You can then click into this for more detail
