This refers to Moodle 4.3 from August 2024 onwards
You can use the External Tool activity to add a Xerte toolkit project to Moodle. The project can be set to run from the Moodle window or in a new pop up window.
Alternatively, you can use the Xerte Toolkit embed code to embed it in a Moodle page or label, but this method does not pass data such as users' names or grades between Xerte Toolkits and Moodle.
When you have completed authoring your Xerte Online Toolkit resource, you can choose to make it available from Moodle without having to log in again:
- Go to https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/toolkits and login.
- Click on the name of the Toolkit resource you want to make available.
- Click 'Publish' icon (the last in the row of orange icons, like a curved arrow).
4. The Publish window opens. Click 'Access' (the Access screen opens).
5. Choose to make your project either:
- 'Public' (which means the object can be viewed from Moodle or anywhere on the Web - IF they know the URL) or (if you do NOT want anyone other than a Moodle class to be able to view it)**
- 'Other', then type in https://moodle.nottingham.ac.uk. This restricts the content to those coming from Moodle.
6. Click 'Change Access'.
7. Click the Project tab, and in that window, click 'Publish'.
8. The web address for the project will appear at the bottom of this window beneath the 'Publish' button. Make note of it as you will need it later.
9. Close the Publish window.
- From the 'More' menu in your module, under the module title, choose LTI External tools.
- In the External Tools window, flip the toggle button for Xerte Online Toolkits to 'Show in activity chooser'.
- Click on the 'Edit mode' slider (Top right of your module) to enable editing.
- In the section where you want to create your resource, click on the Add an activity or resource button.
or (click on the + icon that appears when you hover over the line separating existing activities or resources anywhere within the section).
Search the Activity Chooser for Xerte.
This will open a new page where you will need to enter a 'Activity name' and (optionally) a 'Description'.
Adjust any of the other settings as required and click on the 'Save and return to module' button when ready.
- Click into the Activity you've just added.
Select the appropriate project from your list of Xerte Toolkit resources and click Select.
You will not normally need to adjust any other settings. - On your main Moodle page, click on the 'Editing mode' toggle to turn editing off (top right) when you have finished.
Note that the first time a student accesses the Xerte object, they will be asked to login with their usual University username and password.
