This refers to Moodle 3.8 from September 2020 onwards
How can I see when new items are added to a forum in my module?
If this has been enabled by the module designer, you can set Moodle to mark new forum posts for you:
- Go to your dashboard by clicking 'University logo' on the top left
- Open your personal menu and click 'Preferences'
3. Click Forum preferences
4. Under "Forum tracking" ensure it is set 'Yes: highlight new posts for me'
5. When you have made these changes, click on the 'Save changes' button
You can now see new posts highlighted in a number of ways, for example:
On the main module page:
In the forum:
The post itself is highlighted:
To ensure you're subscribed to a particular forum:
Click the Subscribe button at the top right of the forum once inside it:
Forum preferences
To receive an email every time someone posts
This means that you will receive an email (either every time someone posts or once a day, depending on your profile settings)
- Click your name to drop down the menu and 'Preferences'
- Select Forum preferences
- "Forum auto-subscribe" should be set to 'Yes: when I post, subscribe me to that forum'
4. "Forum tracking" should be set to 'Yes: Highlight new posts for me'
5. When you have completed any changes, click 'Save changes' button.
IMPORTANT: If you are subscribed, you will receive an email every time someone posts BUT you will no longer see the new posts highlighted in Moodle - the two settings are mutually exclusive.
