Once you’re in the Wiki, in this case ‘Let’s write a Wiki-d book together’, you should see some guidance about how to use the Wiki, the first page of the Wiki and a selection of tabs to edit/navigate the Wiki.
The tabs:
View – to see the current page you’re working on (out of edit mode).
Edit – to edit the page you are currently in and add tags
Comments – to add a comment about the page you are currently in
History – to view the editing history of the Wiki
Map – to navigate within the Wiki e.g. between pages
Files – to view files relevant to the Wiki that have been added by your tutor
The first Wiki page will always be created for you by the tutor. You have editing access to every page in the Wiki; you can edit other people’s work and add your own.
Editing a page
- Navigate to the page you wish to edit by using the Map tab > Page List.
- Once in the correct page (check in the View tab) click on the Edit tab. Here you can edit the text on the page and add a new page (see the Tip below for help creating a new page).
- Click the ‘Save’ button at the bottom of the editing page once you’ve finished.
To add a new page
- Beneath the text on a page type the title you want the page to have e.g. [[Chapter Two]]. This creates your new page title as a red link. This means it has not yet been fully created i.e. nothing written on it yet.
- To start adding to your new page click on the red link. This will take you to a page similar to above where you can start typing the contents of your new page.
- When you return to the previous page where you created the link to the next page, you will now see the link has turned blue as below (Chapter One has been created and added to therefore it appears blue, but Chapter Three has only had the link created hence why it is still red).
Tip: You can create navigating links to previous pages in the same way using a previously used title.
