How to create a Moodle Assignment
A Moodle Assignment is an activity requiring students to upload files or text, or that relates to an offline or other activity that needs to be marked.
Assignment has four options:
- Advanced uploading of files
This allows the student to upload multiple files to be assessed by the tutor.
- Online text
Allows the student to type directly into Moodle and the tutor to comment on it. (Not often used
- Upload a single file
Allows the student to upload a single file for assessment.
- Offline activity
This is where the student is purely given instruction on what to do outside of the Moodle environment. It is still possible for the tutor to assign a grade to this assignment type in Moodle.
To add an Assignment:
- On the main course page turn editing on and choose the type of assignment that you
want from the activity dropdown.
The interface for adding each of the different assignment types is the same apart from
one section in each (offline activity is the only exception here as it doesn?t require
one). Like quiz and lesson activities you will need to give it a name,
introduction/instruction text, the dates that it is available and what the maximum
grade possible is. The different sections for each assignment as are as follows.
This moves the block to a tab on the side which looks like this:
- If you mouseover the docked tab you can use the block as normal
Advanced uploading of files
You can decide the maximum file size allowed (although you can?t go higher that the
maximum set in the course settings). You can decide whether students are allowed to
delete submitted files and whether you would like to receive emails when work is
submitted. All of the other settings are self-explanatory.
Assignment results
- When as a tutor you go into an assignment area you will see a link that will list how
many assignments have been submitted and by clicking on it you will be able to view
them.
The resultant screen gives a list of students and beside each is a link to their submitted
work and a link to give both feedback and a grade.
