This refers to Moodle 4.3 from August 2024 onwards
How can I see when new items are added to a forum in my module?
If this has been enabled by the module creator, you can set Moodle to mark new forum posts for you:
Go to your Dashboard by clicking the University logo on the top left of every page in Moodle
- Open your personal menu (the down arrow next to your name at the top right) and click 'Preferences'

3. Under "User account", click Forum preferences
4. Under "Forum tracking" ensure it is set to 'Yes: highlight new posts for me'
5. When you have made these changes, click on the Save changes button

You can now designer, you can see new posts highlighted in a number of ways, for example:
On the main module page:

To ensure you're subscribed to a particular forum:
In the relevant forum:
- Click on the purple button, "Subscribe to forum"

Forum preferences
To receive an email every time someone posts
This means that you wll will receive an email (either every time someone posts or once a day, depending on your profile settings)
- Click your

- initials (top right of the Moodle page) to drop down
...
- your personal menu and then select Preferences
- Select Forum preferences
"Forum auto-subscribe" should be set to 'Yes: when I post, subscribe me to that forum'

IMPORTANT: If you are subscribed, you will receive an email every time someone posts BUT you will no longer see the new posts highlighted in Moodle - the two settings are mutually exclusive.
