It is possible to hide individual resources, sections, topics and even entire modulesIndividual resources and sections can be hidden in Moodle, as well as the entire module. The easiest way to tell if anything something is hidden is the colour - it sometimes shows . Hidden items are usual shown as 'greyed out', or, in .'

How to show a module that is invisible to students

When modules are created, they are automatically hidden . This is to make sure and will appear as 'greyed out.' This ensures that editing teachers can add materials to their module without it being organise and finalise the layout of a module before making it available to students.

When the module is ready to be shown, follow these steps:

1. Go to the the Settings tab for a module (appears beneath module title).

2. In the 'General settings', under 'Module visibility', click 'Hide' or 'Show' as required.

(Clicking 'Hide' again will make the entire module invisible to all students.)

3. Click 'Save and display' at the bottom

It can be useful to hide sections or topics from student view if there are materials you'd like prefer to be unavailable.

  • Turn editing on
  • Click Edit to the right of the section you wish to hide

1. Click the 'Edit mode' slider at the top right of the Moodle page to enable editing.

2. Scroll to the topic you want to hide and click 'Edit' icon then 'Hide topic'. The section or topic will become 'greyed out' and will be hidden.

3. To un-hide

, follow the same steps but select 'Show topic' instead of 'Hide topic'.

4. When you have finished. disable editing using the 'Edit mode' slider.
