It is possible to hide individual resources, sections, topics and even entire modulesIndividual resources and sections can be hidden in Moodle, as well as the entire module. How to show a module that is invisible to students

When modules are created, they are automatically hidden . This is to make sure and will appear as 'greyed out.' This ensures that editing teachers can add materials to their module without it being organise and finalise the layout of a module before making it available to students.

When the module is ready to be shown, follow these steps:

  • In the Cogwheel / Actions menu click Edit Settings (you will need to be an editing teacher on the relevant module.)



  • Under Course visibility (third item down) click Hide or Show  as required.

Hide will completely prevent students from seeing or entering the module.(Clicking Hide again will make the entire module invisible to all students.)

  • Click Save and display at the bottom

How to hide a section or topic

It can be useful to hide sections or topics from student view if there are materials you'd like prefer to be unavailable.

  • Turn editing on
  • Click Edit to the right of the section you wish to hide
  • Click Hide topic

  • Editing and click Edit > Hide Section/Topic. The section or topic will become 'greyed out' and will be hidden.

  • The section will now turn grey and is hidden.
  • To unhide, follow the same steps but select Show topicSection/Topic.

  • Turn on Editing and click Edit > Hide.

You can also hide individual resources.

  • Turn editing on
  • Go to the Edit drop down list next to the resource you'd like to hide
  • Select 'Hide'

  • The resource will now have display a purple message that it is hidden and in some cases will be "greyed out"'Hidden from students' message.

  • To make it visible, go back to the Edit menu and click 'Show'To unhide, follow the same steps but select Show.
