This refers to Moodle 2.6 from September 2014 onwards
- Click on Turn Editing On
- Section visibility is set using the Eye icon where an open eye (as shown below) shows that the section is visible to students. If the eye is closed it can be clicked on to change it to an open eye and therefore visible to students.
- Visibility of items is changed by clicking on Edit and then selecting Show from the option list.
- You may also set an activity to be hidden entirely if you have set access restrictions.

THIS REFERS TO MOODLE 2.2 UNTIL THE END OF AUGUST 2014
If an item (or a whole module) is greyed out, then it is invisible to students (though still visible to staff)
- Click Turn Editing On
- Next to the item that is greyed out click the 'closed eye' icon.
It changes to an open eye icon and the item becomes visible to students (plus no longer greyed out).

NOTE: You may have to refresh or reload your web page (use the option in your browser) to see the grey disappear.
...
- "Show activity greyed-out, with restriction information" (default) OR
- "Hide activity entirely"
All other greyed-out items are invisible to students.
